Now that I am back from vacation (is hunting a vacation?) I can confirm that our new and automated backup solution, (e)Vault) will debut on December 2nd.
(e)Vault will be enabled on all reseller and shared hosting servers, in addition to being made available for server clients.
The backup solution utilizes EVault’s Infostage line of products. Infostage is a fully automated server to agent, disk-to-disk backup technology. Some of the many features include compression, customizable encryption schemes, and Evaults “secret sauce” delta technology.
The backup agent can be managed from a downloadable desktop agent or through a Web server housed in the EIRCA datacenter. Backups can be completely customized on what to backup, how long to keep the data, when the backups run, and encryption schemes. All backups are done over EIRCA’s true out-of-band Private Network. Additional plug-ins can be purchased for specialized products such as SQL and Exchange.
Pricing for dedicated server clients will be made available closer to the start date.
This introduction comes shortly after the termination of the pending “The Vault” project, which had one too many bugs for our liking. Instead, we have chosen to downstream partner with Seagate, who have an obviously long and illustrious history with data storage solutions.

My Saturday mornings are usually started by a quick check of the previous weeks sales activity. That responsibility has passed this week to Simon as he starts his two week birthday vacation, so I decided to veg out a wee bit and read some hosting related literature. An article in The Whir’s magazine [Web Host Industry Review] caught my eye, not necessarily in a good way. (more…)

On or before January 1st of 2008, we will be merging all our brands under the EIRCA name. Sanfire and This Is Hosting have enjoyed a long and prosperous run as subsidiary brands but the time has come to unite them under the main banner. (more…)

In April 2007, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved the applications of certain domain registries to increase their prices. Domain registries are the private companies which manage the registration, technical operations and control the allocation policies of the TLD’s for which it is responsible. (more…)

… The highest bidder, apparently.
This is my first blog entry in which I let out random thoughts relating to the hosting industry, so forgive me if I seem a little rough around the edges. This month, I’d like to start with the dubious honour of being listed as a “TOP TEN HOST”, or similar title. (more…)

Folks: This is just a short post with a bit of a warning. This morning, I was alerted by some users that a company by the name of “Avid Hosting” is sending spam emails to our clients trying to convert them over to Avid Hosting’s spamtastic servers. (more…)

Telephone, Live Chat, snail mail, fax or drop-in. These five protocols can be used for giving technical support to your clients. None of the five, however, are as efficient as a ticketing support system. It works, you just have to know how to control it. (more…)

I am biased toward EIRCA, obviously, but I’d have to say that the biggest breakthrough service in the past five years in the reseller hosting industry was the Reseller Kit we developed with DIYHosting, back in 2003. I’d have to say that this is one of my fondest memories in the past 5+ years: Seeing that program splattered everywhere as a hot topic of discussion. It was described as “incredible”, “over the top”, “unmatchable” and a few other complimentary tags. It was good, that’s for sure. So, where did the rights to development of the Reseller Kit go back in 2005, when DIYHosting was sold? I’ll give you two guesses.. (more…)
